Pod sculpture

Reuben’s inspiration for these contemporary sculptures came from his love of nature. He used forms found in sea shells and seed pods to design these large garden sculptures.  The sculptures are made in resins with various finishes on the outside to give the desired look.

Shown finishes are: bronze created with bronze powder, steel created with iron filings and bone created with crystalline sand.

Toy chests

These toy chests are a design of Reuben’s that have proved very popular. They can be made in any timber. The ones shown are made in Oak, Ash and a multi-timber version. They come with a soft-close mechanism to prevent trapped fingers and are finished in beeswax. As an optional extra Reuben also hand-carves the name of the child into the top to personalise the chest for you.

Blanket chest

This mahogany and beech blanket chest was a bespoke piece of furniture designed to go into a client’s bedroom. Reuben was asked to consider its eventual surroundings, as the room had many different types of furniture in it. He designed this chest to complement the style of the Victorian dresser and echo the different woods used in the other furniture.

Contemporary four-poster bed

This commission was made for a newly-wed couple who wanted a bespoke bed for their new life together. Reuben worked closely with the couple to design this contemporary four-poster queen-sized bed to the clients’ exacting standards. It was made in ash with a lovely olive ash headboard.

‘We were so pleased with the bed Reuben made for us. He was open to all our ideas and incorporated them into his design wonderfully. A genuinely nice guy and we enjoyed the whole process from start to finish.’

Child’s bed

Commissioned by the client to be her little boy’s first bed, she was keen to have a contemporary style with removable rails so that it would be versatile enough to change as her child got older.

The bed was made out of recycled English oak with rosewood joint details and finished with a natural beeswax.

Design and build of small back garden for a Victorian house

This garden was created from a typical ‘yard’ behind a Victorian terraced house. It had sun in a corner for most of the day and the clients wanted to make the most of that. This corner seat was created with cushions which reflected the lovely wisteria. The garden was tiled with multi coloured slate with some raised beds for planting.

“We wanted to make the most of the small outside space we had and Reuben created a perfect oasis for us. The design is superb and the execution of a quality I don’t think we could have matched”

Building a raised deck for a house on a slope

These clients have a house on land which slopes away at the back. They needed some way to enjoy the outdoors without having to climb down steps to the garden. Reuben designed a large raised deck which enabled them to walk straight out of their living room with set of steps down to the garden should they wish to use them.

Renovation front door and path of an Edwardian house

The brief here was to create a frontage for an Edwardian terraced house which was both in keeping with the age and style of the house and also of a quality which would last for years.

“Reuben is a real craftsman. He re-laid our front yard with intricate tiling and renovated our front door in a precise Edwardian style. He is a great guy to have around the house and utterly trustworthy and dependable.”

Re-pointing a patio

IMG_0205The pointing between the paving slabs on this patio had started to crumble and so needed re-pointing.

“Reuben did several jobs for us, including repointing our patio. He is reliable, always cheerful and smiling, and we are very pleased with his work. We would highly recommend him.”

Refitting a kitchen in a 200 year old cottage

This was a complex project which necessitated employing many skills. The room was damp and was very dark. Reuben dry-lined the wall, re-wired the whole room and re-configured one of the stone walls to allow room for a refrigerator. He then plastered the walls, fitted a new kitchen and installed spotlights.

“We had some building work done including dry-lining, plastering and a complete kitchen refurbishment by Reuben. We are very pleased with everything about it, particularly the attention to detail and design, and would not hesitate to recommend him to others.”
